CIA, Samsung, In-Q-Tel and a few other companies are investing in developing some new, very interesting, camera technique. The idea is that a transformable simple liquid crystal (LC) cell turns into a variable focus lens. No use for movable parts makes for smaller lenses. This might be praticularly useful in compact cameras or cellphones, but it might even change the way SLRs works.

Below is an interview with the Panasonic brand manager regarding their revolutionary new “HDSLR/DSLR-V”. It will cost around 6000 USD and be released in December 2010. A cool thing is it will work with lenses from all brands by using external mounts.
